Welcome to Breakfast at Tiffiny's!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

You've probably already noticed our newest class in the Annex.  On Angels' Wings delivered them to us on Tuesday the 8th, and the shelter OAW rescued them from says that the kittens were born last Saturday, the 5th.  They seem like quite an advanced class; one arrived with one eye wide open, and another has already left the box!  Leaving the box at 3-4 days old is a record that will surely stand for some time!

We know it can be difficult to tell the orange kittens and the grey ones apart at this point!  We don't tend to put collars on kittens that are so small.  We've heard of coloring them a little with food dye and we are considering that possibility.

Although the main kitten room will be free this weekend - all of Frolic's kittens are being adopted on Saturday around 13:00 KATZ - we may wait a little while before moving Tiffiny's class into the main room.  She seems a little anxious about other cats at the door and there's even more visibility in the main room.

We've been getting a lot of questions about why we have spelled the mom's name "Tiffiny" instead of the more common "Tiffany."  Firstly, Tiffiny is not unheard of as a spelling!  But more importantly, it's a pun on "Tiffin" - a word that in South India, where DJ is from, means a light breakfast or a snack.

Just a quick note here:  Frolic still needs an adopter!  She gets along quite well with other cats and dogs!  You can apply for her or any of this class using the application link in the menu above!

Frolic's Furballs Graduation!

What - already?!

It's true - all of Frolic's kids are big enough now to graduate.  We've scheduled Gallivant and Roughhouse to go for their surgeries on Tuesday the 1st along with Bubbles and Faucet.  The rest of Frolic's kids - and Frolic herself - will hopefully be scheduled for their own surgeries the following Tuesday, the 8th.

All of Frolic's kids have been adopted and will have wonderful lives.  Gal and Revel get to stay together!  We're expecting all the kids to be picked up by their adopters on the 12th.

But Frolic still needs an adopter!  She's a total sweetheart and loves to play and eat treats.  We think she'll end up getting along with other cats, but we're still in the process of slowly introducing her to the Faculty to prove it out.  And don't get any ideas about us keeping her - now that we've adopted Maggie, we're full for sure!

If you want to apply to adopt you can do that right here.  We don't manage the applications ourselves, it's all down to the wonderful people at On Angels' Wings in Crystal Lake.  They'll allow adoptions from anywhere in the continental USA - if you'll come to pick up Frolic.

On Angels' Wings has already begun the process of checking animal shelters near and far for our next pregnant momcat!

Baf Time Graduation!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

There's plenty of interesting news today - Maggie has officially become Kitten Academy Faculty, and it's the 2-year anniversary of our live stream!  But we will post more about those later; we don't want to take away from the Baf Time kids' graduation!

As you know, Pumice, Wash, Tubby, and Ducky are getting picked up by their adopters this weekend.  Saying goodbye at graduation is especially difficult when we have a class that enrolled at birth at the Academy. However, we know they are going to great homes and that they will keep in touch with us! Look for their class to be added to the Alumni section in the near future. Pickup times for this weekend are listed below:

  • Ducky: 3 PM Saturday
  • Tubby: 4 PM or later, Saturday
  • Pumice + Wash: 1 PM Sunday

Faucet and Bubbles will be staying on a couple extra weeks while we wait for them to get large enough for their spays. They will most likely be graduating in the first week of May.

We expect that the Frolic's Furballs will move up to the main classroom late this weekend or early next week!

And... here are the official portraits of the graduates:

As usual, we've got a lot of fun bonus photos from the graduation photoshoot!

Introducing Frolic's Furballs!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

As you probably know, On Angels' Wings brought us a new momcat and her five kittens to fill up our empty annex!  All we really know about them is that they're about two weeks old, and came to us from animal control in southern Illinois.

They've been passing around a little eye infection - nothing too serious. We're treating that with Ofloxacin - an antibiotic eyedrop we've used many times in the past.  Additionally, the mom cat Frolic has a very mild case of "pillow foot" (Plasma Cell Pododermatitis) and possibly some related allergies or hypersensitivity.  She's not in any discomfort, so with the vet's recommendation, we're waiting until the kittens are able to be weaned before we start treating those.

It's never too early to apply to adopt - and also remember that Tubby from the Baf Time Kittens still needs an adopter, too!

Because these kittens look so much alike, we're going to do this a little differently than we usually do.  Instead of posting one photo of each then a big gallery, we're posting individual galleries below.

Baf Time Kittens Updates!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

There's not much news to share - the Baf kittens are all healthy and hearty.  They might just be the most advanced class we've ever had, setting records to walking, leaving the box, and eating!  They have yet to use the litter box, though.

This post is mostly to share a huge number of photos that we've taken over the last four weeks since the kittens were born (happy 4-week birthdays)!

Since we're writing, though, we'll cover a few quick notes.

Firstly, Mr. A. will be out of town this weekend, so DJ will be managing the kittens and stream all by herself!  Mr. A. is going to Dallas/Fort Worth area for a reciprocal visit with Dr. Bru, and also for a tiny DFW local Kitten Academy fan meet-up!  Of course, the big Kitten Academy Convention (2nd annual!) will be in July.  If you're interested in attending that, all the details are accessible via our Discord chat for Patreons

Since the Baf kittens have become more active, it's been challenging to figure out where to aim the cameras for the best coverage.  We're working on it!  Also, we know that the sound and video sometimes goes out of sync.  We're working on that, too!

If you have trouble telling Faucet from Tubby (we all do!) click here for a quick visual guide.  They're still not quite big enough even for kitten-sized collars, but soon we'll have collars on to help you tell them apart on the stream (tip: Tubby is the one who sleeps all the time).

All right -- here's your photos!  I'm putting these in separate galleries for each photoshoot because otherwise, Squarespace, our site provider, really messes up their ordering.  We've sure come a long way in four weeks!!

Introducing the Baf Time Kittens!

Howdy, Kitten Academicians!

Last night, Pumice gave birth to five healthy kittens!  This is just a quick post to introduce them.  Let us apologize up-front for the quality of the photos - we'll get better ones soon.  The archive of the birth will also be available on YouTube soon!

Mewnits Graduation!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Welcome Pumice!

The Scientific Mewnits had their Graduation ceremonies on Tuesday, and already all have adopters!  That was quick!  You can expect to see Newt and Dalton leaving for their home together tomorrow, Saturday the 3rd, around 12:30 KATZ.  Torr and Kelvin are also going home together, but not until the 10th - time yet to be determined!

We've got some great graduation photos, but first some other news -

We haven't officially announced this in a blogpost, so let us welcome Pumice, our new momcat.  On Angels' Wings finally found us one that's pregnant for sure - she's already giving milk and we can feel the kittens kicking, plus last night DJ showed me how to hear tiny kitten heartbeats.  She's due to deliver literally any day now!

Quiche Lorraine was adopted yesterday!  Her new owners don't have much of a social media presence, but they're wonderful people and we're going to try to get them to share some updates with us.

And of course, a reminder that Magnolia is still available for adoption!  It's also never too early to apply for Pumice, or her kittens - if you get an application in now, you can get approved in advance.

Here's the Mewnits!

As usual, here's all the photos from the photoshoot - and some extras!

Welcome to the Scientific Mewnits!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Before we introduce the newest class, some important mewsbits to get out of the way!

Chestnut Virtual Boop

Chestnut and Sassafras are getting adopted, together, this Saturday around 4pm KATZ.  They'll be flying to their new home in Oregon!

Quiche Lorraine - who we said was definitely pregnant in our last Mewspaper entry - was not pregnant!  The vet originally just felt around for kittens, but last week we brought her in an had a real X-ray and ultrasound done, and found out there were no kittens after all!  She was spayed on Tuesday and is recovering in the master bedroom.  After that, we'll see if she gets along in the house - if she doesn't or is too nervous, we'll try to get her placed with a different foster at On Angels' Wings until she is adopted.

This week, On Angels' Wings found another cat that animal control said was pregnant, and this time we got her all the tests before coming to the Academy.  Turns out, she wasn't pregnant either!  That's zero out of three!  Maybe the next time will be it!  This latest momcat will go to another foster at On Angels' Wings and be eligible for adoption right away!

If you watch the Kitten Weights Spreadsheet, there's a new version for 2018 here.

Quiche Lorraine and Magnolia are both still looking for adopters!  You can apply right here!

The Scientific Mewnits!

While we continue to keep an eye out for a pregnant momcat in need, we've taken on our latest class of four adorable kittens.  They're roughly two months old, and they are not related to each other - just happened to all come in to the same shelter in southern Illinois.

Even though she's out of town, DJ has named them after units of measurement.  Here's our roll call:

As usual, we've got a bunch of photos to share, of all the kittens and cats!

Photodump with Lots of Mews!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We've got a whole bunch of photos from the course of the last month to share with you.  But first, we have a bunch of things to talk about!

Current Kittens

Quiche Lorraine

Most importantly, if you get all your news from our site, you may not know the status of the current kittens and cats at the Academy.  In our last Mewspaper post, we were expecting an orange mom cat to arrive - she did, but it turns out, she wasn't pregnant.  Just a bit chubby!  So On Angels' Wings had another momcat in reserve, who definitely is pregnant.  That's Quiche Lorraine, our Calico momcat with a Manx-style tail.  The vet suspects she still has a week or two to go before she will deliver two or more kittens.

Lorraine is staying in the annex, while the orange not-momcat, now named Cashew, is in the main room with the remaining Trees.  But not for long!  Cashew's adoption will take place at 2:00pm KATZ tomorrow, Saturday the 30th.

That leaves us with Magnolia, Sassafras, and Chestnut who are ready to be adopted!

Wombat's Kitten Academy Stories

Wombat is the nickname of one of our Discord chat participants who has been writing very imaginative stories about the Kitten Academy for some time now.  As a Christmas present to all of us, Dr. Bru (the same one who organized KA-Con) helped arrange to have several artists illustrate the stories, and get the whole thing published as a real book that you can own!  Here's a link to our page that explains all the ways you can find the stories.

Purrfect Cat Rescue

Graycie

Our friends Deb and Diane, who brought us Graycie with the help of mutual friend Catman Chris, are starting their own cat rescue and shelter.  This is super exciting; they're all wonderful people who have put cats first in their lives for a long time now.  We originally met them when we were all working with Animal Outreach Society, and at the time we were impressed that Deb was fostering fourteen kittens all at once!  We would encourage you to keep an eye on their progress via their website, and if you feel like you want to help them out, they are running a GoFundMe campaign to raise the funds for a physical location.  Obligatory warning: Catman Chris and Purrfect Cat Rescue don't necessarily adhere to the "No Sads" policy, though they did switch a few things around on the GoFundMe already to avoid unnecessary sads.

Random Mews and Photos!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Just some quick updates as an excuse to share the latest photos:

The new Momcat!

The new Momcat!

  • Finch, Budgie, Wren, and Graycie are all going to the vet on Tuesday for their Graduation.  They'll be back Tuesday night.  They may have to stay in the Annex for an evening while they recover.
  • We currently are expecting for Finch, Wren and Fig to be picked up by their adopters on the 15th and 16th.  We'll let you know if there's any changes!
  • Our new pregnant momcat is arriving from Kentucky on Thursday.  She's reportedly very young, perhaps as young as six months old!
  • Another one of our videos has mysteriously disappeared from YouTube.  In light of this and the continued issues with sound and video quality from the YouTube streaming application, we intend to do a lot of not-live daily closeup streams until Google patches things up.
  • Adopters are still needed for Magnolia, Budgie, Sassafras, and Chestnut!

Here's a whole bunch of random recent photos of varying quality!
