Photodump with Lots of Mews!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We've got a whole bunch of photos from the course of the last month to share with you.  But first, we have a bunch of things to talk about!

Current Kittens

Quiche Lorraine

Most importantly, if you get all your news from our site, you may not know the status of the current kittens and cats at the Academy.  In our last Mewspaper post, we were expecting an orange mom cat to arrive - she did, but it turns out, she wasn't pregnant.  Just a bit chubby!  So On Angels' Wings had another momcat in reserve, who definitely is pregnant.  That's Quiche Lorraine, our Calico momcat with a Manx-style tail.  The vet suspects she still has a week or two to go before she will deliver two or more kittens.

Lorraine is staying in the annex, while the orange not-momcat, now named Cashew, is in the main room with the remaining Trees.  But not for long!  Cashew's adoption will take place at 2:00pm KATZ tomorrow, Saturday the 30th.

That leaves us with Magnolia, Sassafras, and Chestnut who are ready to be adopted!

Wombat's Kitten Academy Stories

Wombat is the nickname of one of our Discord chat participants who has been writing very imaginative stories about the Kitten Academy for some time now.  As a Christmas present to all of us, Dr. Bru (the same one who organized KA-Con) helped arrange to have several artists illustrate the stories, and get the whole thing published as a real book that you can own!  Here's a link to our page that explains all the ways you can find the stories.

Purrfect Cat Rescue

Graycie

Our friends Deb and Diane, who brought us Graycie with the help of mutual friend Catman Chris, are starting their own cat rescue and shelter.  This is super exciting; they're all wonderful people who have put cats first in their lives for a long time now.  We originally met them when we were all working with Animal Outreach Society, and at the time we were impressed that Deb was fostering fourteen kittens all at once!  We would encourage you to keep an eye on their progress via their website, and if you feel like you want to help them out, they are running a GoFundMe campaign to raise the funds for a physical location.  Obligatory warning: Catman Chris and Purrfect Cat Rescue don't necessarily adhere to the "No Sads" policy, though they did switch a few things around on the GoFundMe already to avoid unnecessary sads.

Random Mews and Photos!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Just some quick updates as an excuse to share the latest photos:

The new Momcat!

The new Momcat!

  • Finch, Budgie, Wren, and Graycie are all going to the vet on Tuesday for their Graduation.  They'll be back Tuesday night.  They may have to stay in the Annex for an evening while they recover.
  • We currently are expecting for Finch, Wren and Fig to be picked up by their adopters on the 15th and 16th.  We'll let you know if there's any changes!
  • Our new pregnant momcat is arriving from Kentucky on Thursday.  She's reportedly very young, perhaps as young as six months old!
  • Another one of our videos has mysteriously disappeared from YouTube.  In light of this and the continued issues with sound and video quality from the YouTube streaming application, we intend to do a lot of not-live daily closeup streams until Google patches things up.
  • Adopters are still needed for Magnolia, Budgie, Sassafras, and Chestnut!

Here's a whole bunch of random recent photos of varying quality!

Welcome to the Birbs, and Many Updates!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Thank you all for your patience and for sticking by us though it's been a month since our last post.  Taking in such a large and diverse group of kittens as the Trees has certainly been an experience!

We've got a lot of news and information to share - and we've also got over a hundred photos from the latest photoshoot.  This is going to be a long post!

Let's start with the new kittens!  Mr. A's own mom, in Kansas, fostered three tiny kittens - she gave them a wonderful start and all the care they needed to thrive.  She thought they might do best to get adopted if they came to the Kitten Academy to get some extra exposure.  They're roughly two months old now.  Welcome to The Birbs - because Birbs and Trees go together!

Budgie - Female

Finch - Female

Wren - Male

There's many more photos of the three of them in the gallery at the end of the post!

We're told by On Angels' Wings that there are still no applications in for the wonderful Chestnut, Hannah (Banana), Hickory, Juniper, Magnolia, Maple, or Sassafras!

Even if the kitten or cat you wanted has applications in, you can still apply - sometimes things fall through at the last minute; or even after the last minute as with Babaghanoush, who returned to the Academy after his adopter turned out to have a severe allergy!

On that note, we expect Babaghanoush to be picked up by his new adopter on the 11th, and Ginkgo will be joining alumni Kazoo and his family on the 18th!  None of the other pending adoptions are scheduled quite yet.

Finally, updates on the health of various kittens:  Fig has a minor eye infection, we're treating with antibiotics and some painkillers to keep her happy.  The vet suspects that Finch has a bit of a URI - we're treating with continued antibiotics.  And of course, the best news, when Eucalyptus was in for her spay, the vet found and removed a large nasopharyngeal polyp, which seems to have solved all her breathing issues!  She's still on antibiotics for a while while she heals up from the surgery.  Finally, we were keeping an eye on Buckeye's weight, but it seems as though he's already on the rebound and showing great gains!

[Edited:  We meant to also apologize here for being so far behind on e-mails.  We'll get caught up soon!]

Here's the giant gallery of photos, as promised!

Welcome to the Cat Trees!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Before we get into the news of the new class, a quick reminder,  Hummus is still looking for a qualified adopter, which is mind-blowing, as he's a wonderful, playful, and loving kitten!  And you can apply online, just click right here!

DJ's pocket-sized cheatsheet!  Click it!

On Thursday, September 28th, Kitten Academy welcomed its largest and most unusual class to date!  We were told that a farmer in Indiana had gathered up all the cats and kittens in his barn, and they consisted of "Two momcats who were sharing parenting duties, and all their kittens."  We expected two young litters, but what we got wasn't exactly what we expected - two wonderful momcats, and a big bunch of kittens from multiple litters, ranging in age from about four weeks to six months!  In fact, all but three of them are already old enough to be eligible for graduation!

Though we've only had a few days to get to know them so far, they already are turning out to be wonderful, loving kittens.  The arrival and first day were rough - they'd been through a lot, and were a little scared of everything, including us and each other!  But it's only four days later and they are all getting along wonderfully, and have become super friendly - many of them get obviously excited to see us every time we come into the room, and will follow us around, asking to be loved.  And love them, we do!  Such a great bunch!

We've already scheduled the spay/neuter for all but the youngest three of them, which will happen tomorrow, Tuesday the 3rd of October.  Special thanks to On Angels' Wings for setting up the vet, and for providing post-operation kitten cuddling services (they always need extra volunteers to help cuddle kittens)!  And super special thanks to OAW volunteer, CariAnne (on the Patreon chat) for getting up extra early to help transport so many kittens!

Here's our official cheatsheet and initial photoshoot!  We're including the ages at the time of this post - but keep in mind we don't know how old they are!  These are our best guesses.

The first three kittens - on a different background - are currently isolated in the master bathroom, because they are so small, and because they had fleas (we think that's taken care of now) and because at least two of them are showing signs of having a very minor cold.  They are also the only ones not going for the spay/neuter tomorrow!

Eucalyptus - Female - 4 weeks

Elderberry - Male - 4 weeks

Gingko - Female - 7-8 weeks

Chestnut - F - 3-4 months

Sassafras - Female - 2-2.5 months

Hickory - Male - 3 months

Maple - Female - 2.5-3 months

Buckeye - Male - 2 months

Crabapple - Male - 5-6 months

Juniper - Female - 4-5 months

Larch - Male - 4-5 months

Filbert - Male - 6 months

Magnolia - Momcat - Young

Fig - Momcat - Young

As usual, here's all the photos from our photoshoot!
