Tilly's Stable Graduation!

Greetings Kitten Academicians!

It’s amazing how the time has flown by for this wonderful class of tiny kittens - no longer quite so tiny! They’ve been a real joy these last three months. Here’s what we know about the adoption dates:

  • Shire - Adopted 12/12

  • Brumby - 12/19

  • Clyde and Morgan together on 12/19 around noon.

  • QP - 12/26

  • Tilbury - Pick up in January!

We’re really going to miss having these kids around the house! Thanks to their extremely accommodating mom, Tilbury, they have been out and around the Academy more than any previous class and it’s been wonderful!

Fancy Feasters Updated Photos!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Truffle’s Fancy Feasters are growing up fast! They’re just over five weeks old now, and will be going for their first vet visit on the 16th, when they reach an even six weeks. They all seem super healthy and have learned to eat solid food! And although they’re not yet entirely learned in the ways of the litter box, we’re sure it won’t be long.

Here’s an updated cheat-sheet and then a whole bunch of photos beginning back at two weeks old when their eyes had just opened! We’ll be posting the graduation photos of Tilly’s class next week.

Saffron - Female

Macadamia Nut - Male - Macnut

Champagne - Male - Champ

Caviar - Male

Truffle - Momcat

Welcome to the Fancy Feasters!

Here’s DJ’s Cheatsheet!

New momcat Truffle was discovered hanging around a garage in rural Georgia and DAWS arranged to have her brought to the Academy [* see below] on Halloween day. We could tell it wouldn’t be long before she delivered her kittens! She was an instant lap snuggler and spent all the time she could curled up on our lap in the beanbag chair.

Sure enough, four healthy kittens were born on the morning of November 4th! Truffle appears to be an experienced mom and is handling all of her kittens’ needs just fine - with an occasional time-out for more lap snuggles!

Here’s the photos from the initial photoshoots after and before the birth, and afterwards we’ll share some info about the new merch on Teespring!

We know that our Teespring storefront can be difficult to navigate if you’re looking for something in particular buried under all the different products on which you can have the KA logo printed! So we wanted to take a moment here to post links to the newest items.

Our friend (and the voice of Smokey) Pauline contacted the amazing artist Kat Giannini to commission artwork of the Kitten Academy Faculty to be raffled at the 2020 KA-Con raffle. But events led to the cancellation of the raffle this year, and instead, Kat has allowed us to sell her fantastic portraits of the faculty on our Teespring store as shirts and coffee mugs! It’s super generous of her to allow, considering she has her own Etsy store where she sells some of her best prints. Also thanks to Jay for refactoring the original art to suit the shirts and mugs! Everyone involved really went out of their way to make this possible and we love the art so much that we’ve already ordered the whole set for the Academy.

The good people at Teespring have mentioned that they may be able to provide a discount code for us this weekend or soon thereafter, so if they do, I’ll update this post with the code here. Meanwhile, here’s a bonus design from Jay based on a T-shirt we sometimes wear around the Academy!

[* From Above:
DAWS generously covered the costs for Planned Pethood GA to rescue Truffle and a Georgia Transport Allies transport to bring Truffle to the Academy. Links here, but be warned that these sites do not follow the Kitten Academy No-Sads policy.]

Happy Meowloween!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Six weeks old and Tilbury’s Stable are doing great! They are super healthy, super cute, super advanced little kittens.

We expect a new calico momcat to arrive tomorrow, Saturday the 31st (Halloween) so there will not be mailbag, but we’ll do a close-up if and when the new mom arrives to introduce her!

Meanwhile, applications for Tilly and her kittens are open and you can apply here. Applications are reviewed by DAWS. Remember, it’s not a race; DAWS will check all the applications and try their hardest to place the kittens the way they think is best for the kittens — if you aren’t selected to adopt the kittens or momcat you applied for, please keep your heart open for a future kitten!

Here’s a new cheat-sheet of names to replace the old one:

Shire - Male

Quarter Pony - Female - AKA QP, AKA Quartz

Clydesdale - Male - AKA Clyde

Brumby - Female

Morgan - Female

Tilbury - Momcat - AKA Tilby, AKA Tilly

Here’s the rest of the photoshoot, and a few bonus photos of the faculty!

Tilbury's Stable Photos Catch-Up!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Tilbury’s kittens will be six weeks old this Saurday and going for their first vaccines on the 28th. Meanwhile, we expect a new mom cat to be arriving via DAWS sometime around the 24th!

[EDIT: Hey don’t forget, DAWS big ball is online, free, Saturday the 24th - but you need to sign up - for free - here: https://daws.org/event/daws-annual-ball-2020/ ]

Here’s a bunch of photos all from 2020-10-09 and earlier that we’ve only just finished editing. Hopefully we can find time now to take some new ones!

Harvest Art Festival!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Once again we’re a little late in making a blog post to announce the October art challenge! The mysterious Banksyl has created a list of art prompts and you are invited to participate in any fashion that fits your fancy, whether you sketch, paint, sculpt, knit, whistle… whatever you are inspired to do by the prompts, just tweet them at us with the #KAHarvest2020 hashtag!

In a change from previous months, the art we’re posting from the last art prompt, the July Beach Party, has been self-selected for publication by the artists themselves! They’re all great, so here we go:

Amazing work by everyone who participated! Thank you all so much and have fun this month!

Welcome to Tilbury's Stable!

We’re a bit late in posting about it, but Tilbury arrived via DAWS on September 6th, from Morgantown, West Virginia. We don’t know exactly how old she might be, but we suspect she’s at least four years old. We think she’s probably had a number of litters of kittens before coming to the Academy.

Early in the morning of September 12th, she delivered 5 beautiful, healthy, monochromatic kittens. The photos in the big gallery below are from the 13th, the 22nd, and the 29th. We feel like you can probably guess which are which!

So far, she’s been a model momcat, taking care of her kittens’ every need with practically no assistance from us - we didn’t even need to help in the delivery (but we did anyhow)! That’s rare. She also has been visiting the faculty and exploring the house every morning, which is unprecedented among momcats with newborn kittens.

Hipster Weebops Graduation!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

It seems like just yesterday that Bebop spent twelve whole hours bringing her seven kittens into the world, but they’re now three months old, and have completed their studies at the Academy! We have the adoptions all scheduled, except for Artie, who’s spending a little extra time here to have his kidneys checked out on Tuesday.

  • Indie and Retro - September 20

  • Ironic and Vintage - September 20

  • Vinyl - September 25

  • Bespoke and Bebop - September 26

  • Artie - ????

Somehow Tilbury’s kittens have reached a week old and we still haven’t published their first photoshoot - so we’ll make that up to all of you with additional photos in due time! Meanwhile…

Momcat Shuffle, Photos, and Acro!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

The update on Acro isn’t as pleasing as we’d have hoped. You can click the following button for that:

In an effort to bring something a little happier to this post, here’s some recent mom/not-momcat and faculty photos!

First off, we had “May B.” the not-mom, aka “Caton Rouge Shortbread.” She turned out to not be pregnant at all, but is a sweetheart who appreciates a good lap and a belly rub. She’s very anxious about new people, new places, and new cats, but given time to adjust, very loving. She’s already got an approved adopter, and is staying at the Academy, in the Office, until after her graduation surgery. She’ll be picked up by k80cat on September 16th!

We’re sure her adopters know how to manage cats but it’s a good opportunity to give advice to anyone who’s adopting! Especially with adult cats, but especially with ones that are nervous about changes, it would be a good idea for her adopters to prepare a room with a litterbox, food and water, and no hiding places that they can’t easily retrieve her from. For instance, a bed she can hide under is a bad idea since it can be difficult to coax her out. Even a large closet or bathroom is a fine choice if it’s what you’ve got. After she’s had a day to get used to it as “her space” then you can slowly invite her out to explore the rest of the house, returning to her space when she’s overwhelmed or when you won’t be around to keep an eye out. In due time you and she will become comfortable allowing her free access to the house.

When it comes to meeting new cats, you need to use your best judgement as to what makes a good introduction. Usually letting the cats see each other a few times from a distance, then slowly bringing them together over repeated play or treat sessions is a good idea. May B. was responding well to treat sessions with the faculty, though there’s still more to do. One of the important considerations is to separate the cats and reset before they have a chance to get into a scuffle! At the first sign of hissing or growling it’s usually a good time to call it off and try again later.

Then we have “Tessa,” aka “Void.” Her delivery didn’t result in any kittens, but she proved herself to be a wonderfully sweet cat, nearly a kitten herself - almost certainly less than a year old. She’s gone to DAWS to wait for an adopter. You will be able to find her on their site - we’ll update this post with a link when it’s available!

We expected another mom/not-mom this weekend, but she delivered her kittens before she could come to the Academy, and now it will be a couple weeks before she’s eligible for transport. It’s likely we’ll have a new mom cat this Saturday, the 5th.

Finally, a reminder that this weekend, we’ll also be featured at Crunchyroll’s V-CRX 2020! Perhaps they’ll be treated to a delivery of kittens!?

Here’s a few bonus photos from recent shoots!

Some Very Hipster Photos!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We’ll have a blogpost about “May B” and our run of not-exactly-mom cats soon, but this is all about the Hipsters and Bebop!

VCRX2020_GuestFrame_CatCafeGuest-Name---16_9.png

Very excitingly, the wonderful people at Crunchyroll have made Kitten Academy and Bebop and her kittens the official “Yuzu’s Cat Cafe” at their annual Crunchyroll Expo, September 4-6! We can’t even tell you all what an amazing honor it is and how excited we are to be a small part of such a big deal! It’s really thoughtful of them to want to include a cat rescue and help some cats and kittens, both present and future, find their adopters!

We get a lot of questions about Bessie or “the wobbly kitten” in the group. She does have Cerebellar Hypoplasia, but all that means is that she’ll be adorably clumsy her whole life. Her brother Artie has a less noticeable case of the same thing.

Bebop and the Weebops are scheduled for their spay and neuter “graduation” surgeries on the 10th and 14th of September, and will be eligible to be picked up at the Academy (or at DAWS, as you like) ten days later, when the sutures are removed.
