Hazelnut's Hats + Lots of Updates!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We’ve got a lot of news to get through so let’s get to it!

Cashmere

Super high on the list of exciting things to share is that Cashmere of Cuddles’ Snugglers has found an adopter! Better yet, he’s going home with someone already on our discord, so we’re excited to be able to keep up with him. The expected adoption date is September 2nd. We’re gonna miss this handsome guy.

Hazelnut’s Hats

Another exciting announcement is, of course, Hazelnut’s Hats! Late on the 6th of August and into the morning of the 7th, Hazelnut gave birth to four beautiful and healthy kittens. She’s very clearly an experienced mom and has taken wonderful care of herself and her family so far. After the last few classes that required a bit more hands-on care for one reason or another, this class has been an absolute treat to have at the Academy. Great gains, sweetheart mom, hardly any bad poops, clean and tidy, adorable—the list goes on.

We don’t have pictures quite yet of these tinies but rest assured, it’s on the to-do list. We wont make any promises but there’s hope that we may get around to a real photoshoot with this class soon. For now, here’s a cheatsheet with their names! Bonnet being the only girl.

Crank Update

While what we do know from vet appointments and the internist she saw is positive news, we don’t really have any specific answers as to what may be going on with little Crank. There’s the potential that whatever is causing her digestive issues may be something she’s able to grow out of as it has been slowly improving over time. We’ve gone ahead and scheduled her spay on September 9th with the same surgeon who did Teaspoon’s neuter awhile back. While she’s sedated they’ll do a little investigating and see what they can find. In the meantime, she’s doing okay with the lactulose and receiving enemas as needed. We’ll update again when we know more. Here you have a few Crank photos and a bonus Teaspoon!

Teaspoon Update

Tuesday, the 27th, Teaspoon had a follow-up appointment at the cardiologist. Basically, his heart valve issue is more or less stable and his body is compensating well enough to continue as is. The risks of the procedure he may eventually need greatly outweigh the benefits at this point, so we’re happy to wait. The plan for now is to continue him on his heart medication and have another follow-up in about one year.

Directly after his cardiology appointment he met with our vet, Dr. Katz, regarding his ongoing constipation issues. She decided it would be best to give him an enema to clean him out and bump his lactulose dose up just a bit. She also suggested a high-fiber diet which we will be looking into as well.

Teaspoon and Cash being unbearably cute

Gadget Update

On the 13th of August, Gadget got her spay without any issues. We thought maybe it might calm her down but so far there’s been no sign of her slowing down, not even a little bit! She has been enjoying supervised exploration around the house and some arranged trial playdates with Custard. Her style of communication is a little misunderstood by the rest of the cats but we really do think she’s just got a lot of energy and wants to be playful despite not communicating with the others clearly.

If you’ve made it this far, well done! We know this was a lot to get through. As a bonus, here are a couple photos of Gadget and Crank out in the stroller with DJ. Gadget found it interesting, Crank, not so much.

We’ll be back when we have more to share, thanks for reading!

What Mew, Loom's Catterns?

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We took some photos of Loom and her kids for you to enjoy! Not much else to it. They all got collars but that was after this photoshoot, so the collar colors are noted by their names but you won’t see them — don’t try looking closer!

Brief health updates: The Catterns are all over their Calicivirus as far as we can tell! Herringbone took a spill and we’re still consulting with the vets about whether there’s anything we can or should do - meanwhile he’s kittening perfectly well on three legs! We’ll keep you informed as we know more.

Here’s a cute new design in our Teespring store featuring Puget.

Loom

Paisley - Female - Lavender Collar

Basketweave - Male - Grey Collar

Herringbone - Male - Red Collar

Chevron - Male - Blue Collar

Argyle - Male - Orange Collar

Myth, Rumor, and More!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We promised more photos of Myth and Rumor and well - we tried! If you’d like to know more about applying to adopt either of these fantastic non-moms, check our previous blog post - and there’s more photos there too!

We’re not completely sure when Rumor and Myth will be eligible to go home, but we’d expect it to be in about a month. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as everything is set!

Don’t miss the bonus photos of some of the faculty and Feasters who stopped by during the photoshoot, at the end of this post!

Alpine Photoshoot, Myth and Rumor

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We’re sure you’ve heard by now, the Fancy Feasters all have approved adopters and will be eligible to go home soon, but there’s a bit of a URI going around the Academy at the moment that is complicating the schedules. We currently have the boys set for their neuters with Dr. Katz on Wednesday, and if they are able to keep that appointment, then they will be ready to go home as soon as this weekend! Truffle and Saffron will have their sutures out on Friday and also be ready this weekend. We’re hoping the URI is well-resolved by then!

In other very important news, we have Myth and Rumor, the two non-momcats, staying with us until we’re able to get them spayed and adopted. We’ve had to bump their appointments to reschedule the Feaster boys, so we’re not yet sure when they will be ready to go home, but it’s likely to be in about a month.

Myth would rather stay home than visit the Alps.

Myth is an older dilute calico who startles easily, and would like to have her own private quiet place to spend most of her time, and also is crazy for snuggles and vigorous petting. She will purr and roll over for endless belly rubs; it’s not a trap! She can also be quite playful, usually in the quiet hours of the night. She can peacefully co-exist with other cats, but doesn’t want them too close. She doesn’t ask for a lot of attention, but she will reward a patient adopter — someone who can approach her quietly and deliberately — with a lot of love.

Rumor is patient and playful.

Rumor is a very young tabby — still practically a kitten herself. She enjoys chasing and wrestling with other cats, and is very respectful when they ask her to calm down or back off. She has a natural talent for getting along with other cats and kittens. She also loves her people and always wants to be close enough to know where they are and what they’re doing. It’s difficult to imagine an environment that Rumor wouldn’t thrive, though she does need a little extra care when making big changes and new introductions. She didn’t want to be left alone for a minute the first few days that she was here. After settling in she’s been a little more independent.

We’ll be getting more photos and talking about Myth and Rumor more in the near future - meanwhile, you can apply to adopt either of them!

Here’s the last photoshoot we did - just after Myth and Rumor arrived and just before the URI broke out. Rumor was so passive during the photoshoot that we couldn’t resist having her try on some hats! Myth wasn’t interested in visiting a new room with a bunch of strange stuff so she just got her photos in her own room - it was tricky getting her to pose instead of rolling over for more belly rubs!

Happy Meowloween!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Six weeks old and Tilbury’s Stable are doing great! They are super healthy, super cute, super advanced little kittens.

We expect a new calico momcat to arrive tomorrow, Saturday the 31st (Halloween) so there will not be mailbag, but we’ll do a close-up if and when the new mom arrives to introduce her!

Meanwhile, applications for Tilly and her kittens are open and you can apply here. Applications are reviewed by DAWS. Remember, it’s not a race; DAWS will check all the applications and try their hardest to place the kittens the way they think is best for the kittens — if you aren’t selected to adopt the kittens or momcat you applied for, please keep your heart open for a future kitten!

Here’s a new cheat-sheet of names to replace the old one:

Shire - Male

Quarter Pony - Female - AKA QP, AKA Quartz

Clydesdale - Male - AKA Clyde

Brumby - Female

Morgan - Female

Tilbury - Momcat - AKA Tilby, AKA Tilly

Here’s the rest of the photoshoot, and a few bonus photos of the faculty!

Gab's Gifts and Faculty Photos!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We’ve been building up a big backlog of photos of the Gifts and the Faculty to share, but we didn’t want to put them into a post with the Hipster Weebops. So … here’s what we’ve been hanging on to, including photos from the forgotten photoshoot back at the beginning of the month! Hang on to your modems - this is a big one!!

We’ll come back soon with a graduation photoshoot - this wasn’t even it!

Faculty Jam!

Sugar Brookie

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Quick updates:

Brook’s blood sugar has been in a normal range two days in a row, though it’s a bit early to claim she’s in remission, it’s possible that she could be adopted and not need daily insulin after all. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and you can follow along in our daily morning videos!

Bell’s X-ray clearly shows two kittens and perhaps unclearly shows more than that. We’ve scheduled another for Tuesday the 28th, the same day that Pebble will be in for her graduation surgery/final exam.

Pebble and Culotte will be picked up by their adopter on the 31st. We’ll be sad to see them go, but we’re thrilled that they’ve found a great home!

Though things may be slow at the Academy while we wait for Bell to deliver, we’ll do our best to keep some kind of entertainment on the live stream!

Here’s the photos of the faculty that interrupted the Tinyplants graduation shoot the other day:

Merry Christmas!

Season’s Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Not much to share here, but we didn’t want to let Christmas go by without posting the remnants of our Christmas photoshoot. We’ll also be posting the archive of the Santa visit … uh, eventually?

Also, just a quick reminder, Tailor and Brook still need adopters! We’ll post more about that soon.

Connecticat Bound!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Smokey!

As you know, DJ and Mr. A are moving the Academy to Connecticut, where DJ is set to begin her post-graduate medical work! The Kitten Academy will continue uninterrupted. Cari, who has always been our On Angels’ Wings liaison, has been kind enough to set up a kitten classroom for the Tantrums to complete their coursework. Tomorrow, Monday the 27th, at 11:00am, TnT and the Tantrums will move to Cari’s classroom and the Kitten Academy live stream will be broadcast from there until they graduate and go to their new homes!

All of the endowments have already been delivered to Cari and the TnT and Tantrum adopters will be picking them up at On Angels’ Wings when they are ready to graduate.

Later this same week, the Faculty will have an epic two-day road trip from IL to CT! We’ll try to keep some video and photos of the trip to share with all of you after the fact, but we probably won’t be able to stream any of it live. You’ll all be too busy watching the cute Tantrums at Cari’s!

Our current plan is to have a new momcat or kittens at the new Academy in Connecticut by June 10th or thereabouts. We’ll be sure to keep you informed. And maybe we can do some close-up streams of the faculty in the new house before that!

Loganberry Helps Pack for the Move

We’ve been working with the Danbury Animal Welfare Society to help us find new momcats and kittens and also to process applications for future classes. We’re totally excited to work with them - they’re a well-established rescue that has been in their current location (which is, ironically, not in Danbury) for about 40 years! Mr. A met with them on a previous trip to CT and was super impressed with how wonderful they are and their facilities. We can hardly wait until we can help with their momcats and kittens!

If you want our new mailbag address, it’s:

Kitten Academy
270 Monroe Tpke #186
Monroe, CT 06468

However if you want to contribute to our arrival in Connecticut, we’d encourage you to consider donating to DAWS in our name instead! They also have their own Amazon Wish List.

Finally, let me say what an absolute joy it’s been working with the people here in Illinois who’ve made Kitten Academy what it is. We’ll miss being so near to all of you, but we hope to see many of you again (at KA-Con 3 if nothing else)!

Here’s a few recent faculty photos to wrap up this post - and we’ve got a bunch of great TnT and Tantrum photos to share when we’re closer to their graduation!
