Welcome Hipster Weebops!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

It’s been quite a week or two here with Bebop finally delivering seven healthy kittens on Wednesday, June 10th! It was an extended delivery, roughly 12 hours - with a few hairy moments and seven adorable furry ones.

We’ve been hoping to make a post with more, better photos and lots of info but we realize these kittens are just getting cuter every day and growing so quickly the photos are outdated the minute we take them. So here’s what we’ve got!

Because it’s so difficult to tell the kittens apart - especially when we took the first set of photos - we’re breaking this down into a little gallery for each and then a big gallery of everything else.

Bespoke - Female - Bessie

Artisanal - Male - Artie

Indie - Female

Ironic - Female - Ira

Vinyl - Female

Vintage - Male - Vinny

Retro - Female

Bebop - Momcat

And here’s a big bunch of all the photos we’ve taken so far - !

Welcome Bebop!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Aw, kibble again? I asked for filet mignon!

Bebop is the Academy’s latest attendee, and she arrived from the Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Control Shelter in West Virginia! They sent her to the Danbury Animal Welfare Society, who we are partnered with, on May 16th. DAWS checked her out and determined (via ultrasound) that she is pregnant, they estimated 6 kittens to be delivered in roughly two weeks.

Since she arrived she’s been a very fussy eater, so we brought her in to AristoKatz for an evaluation and Dr. Katz confirmed (via X-ray) that she has seven kittens and thinks they may arrive sooner than DAWS suspected! We also did all the tests and her results were normal for a pregnant momcat, so we suspect the fussy eating is just because she’s uncomfortable and seven kittens take up a lot of space!

She’s a very lean mom who weighs in under eight pounds even with a belly full of kittens. We’re working on helping her bulk up for the delivery. So far her favorite activities seem to be observing the neighborhood through the window, and finding the coolest spot to lie on the floor.

Bebop had an orange dad!

The gene for orange (sometimes called red or yellow) cats is dominant and exists on the X chromosome. Pure orange female cats like Bebop can only happen when they inherit two of the orange genes. This makes them a little rarer than orange boys. It also means the only kittens they can have will be orange, calico, or torties. If dad was orange too, then all the kittens will be orange. The Spruce Pets has an excellent article about orange cats that goes into some detail about this.

Here’s some initial photos of this beauty. We promised some photos of the Faculty but we’ll provide those in a future post - Bebop deserves her own!

Welcome to Bell's Big Family!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

DJ’s cheat sheet for Tinker’s kids!

We were planning on doing a big blog post all about Brook, when suddenly we went from no kittens at the Academy to a very full house, seemingly overnight!

First, DAWS got Bell, a very pregnant five-year-old momcat, from Georgia — from the same folks in Georgia who brought us Tailor previously. She arrived at the Academy after a short flight, thanks to a brilliant Delta airlines employee and friend of cats, on January 15th. Then, while we were waiting for her kittens to be delivered, we heard that DAWS would be receiving her mom and siblings from Georgia, too, and when they asked if we wanted them, we said “Yes!”

DJ’s cheat sheet for Bell’s latest! [Ed: They are all girls]

But we later found out, it was Bell’s daughter, Tinker, and Tinker’s kittens/Bell’s grandkittens, Dabble, Monkey, Putter, and Trifle. They arrived after a 13-hour non-stop overnight drive by a dedicated kitten transporter, on February 1st. Tinker is about 3 years old, and her kittens were born on December 12th of 2019.

And they had nearly just arrived when Bell decided to deliver three brand-new kittens, giving Tinker’s kids a set of aunts on Thursday, February 6th! Welcome to “Bell’s Whistles,” Foghorn, Klaxon, and Beep!

For now, we’re keeping the groups separate, because of the big age difference in the kittens. It’s unclear whether we’ll find an opportunity to bring them together before they graduate. But we’re bringing them together virtually in this welcome post since Bell didn’t get her own welcome post yet!

“Grandma” Bell - 4.5 or 5 years young

Foghorn - Female - one day old

Beep - Female - one day old

Klaxon - Female - one day old

Tinker - Bell’s Daughter and Momcat of Four - 3 years old

Putter - Male - 8 weeks old

Monkey - Male - 8 weeks old

Trifle - Male - 8 weeks old

Dabble - Female - 8 weeks old

As usual, here’s all the photos from the photoshoots! We got some good photos of Brook and the faculty that we’ll share in another post here soon!

Welcome to Brook's Babbles!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We’ve got photos lined up in advance for another blog post tomorrow, so we’re going to save news and updates about the Tinypants for then. This post is just about the new kittens!

Three kittens showed up unexpectedly at DAWS, and they knew we were looking for some siblings for Pebble, so they asked us to take them in and add them to Brook’s class. Unfortunately, Brook has decided she’s done with kittens - seemingly even done with Pebble — so we’ve taken the kittens to the “second annex.” Pebble is getting along great with her new brothers!

Meanwhile, Brook is scheduled for her spay on Thursday and would be ready to go home with the right adopter shortly thereafter! She’s sweet, playful, and very pretty! So far, she’s not too happy about other cats, though that may change once she’s had her surgery. And she’s not aggressive, so we’re fairly confident she could be with other cats after a patient and extended introduction. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we introduce her to the faculty while she’s here.

Welcome to Tailor's Bespoke Tinypants!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

DJ’s cheat sheet!

Our newest momcat, Tailor, arrived a week ago from near Savannah, Georgia. She delivered two of her kittens on the transport up from GA, and the third and final kitten at the Academy. Her paperwork says she may be half Bengal and despite her diminutive size, her amazing colors seem to bear that out! Thanks to Tabby Tales and DAWS for coordinating her arrival at the Academy!

Before we get on with the official photos, we have the results of the Basepaws poll from our last entry. You have chosen Magnolia to be the faculty member that we test first! We’ll be sure to let you know when we submit the test and the results when it comes back!

All right then - on with the kittens!

Knickerbocker - Male

Culotte - Female

Blue Jean - Female

Tailor - Momcat

And here’s the rest:

Welcome Whimsical Wiggles!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

DJ made a cheat-sheet!

There’s one more post in our five-part art series, but not today. Also, don’t forget about KA-Con 3!

Today we give our official welcome to Whimsy and her five wiggly kittens! Whimsy is our first cat brought to us through our new shelter, the Danbury Animal Welfare Society. They are completely awesome and you should check them out!

As you know, Whimsy has been fighting off a bit of an upper respiratory infection. She’s still sneezing a bit but otherwise it seems like she’s feeling much better lately! She’s been eating and drinking on her own again and we’re continuing her treatments of antivirals and antibiotics until she’s completely well.

Her five little kittens seem super healthy so far! Here they are:

Fidget - Female - Torbie

Flip - Female - Dilute Tortie?

Twist - Female - Tabby

Cartwheel - Male - Tabby

Twiddle - Male - Tabby

Whimsy - Momcat

It can be difficult to tell Twist and Cartwheel apart on the stream. Twist has a bold white ring on her back right leg, and also a white neck under her chin. Cartwheel doesn’t - so that’s an easy way to tell who is who if those parts are visible. When they get big enough, we may consider collars to help differentiate them.

Here’s all the rest of the photoshoot!

Welcome to Tempest's Tantrums!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

Last Thursday, the 21st, Tempest delivered her three adorable orange kittens. Mr. A was out of town, looking for a new home for the Academy in Connecticut, so DJ handled the midwifery all on her own. Of course she did a great job, and so did Tempest!

Since then, the three kittens have been growing at an incredible rate! Both Tempest and Teacup have been caring for them. While only Tempest is able to feed them, Teacup gives them plenty of cleanings and snuggles. And she does the same for Tempest! The love between these two cats is incredible and rest assured we’ll do all we can to get them adopted together!

On that note, we have a wonderful T-shirt in our Teespring store that has art of Tempest and Teacup together, by the fabulous Joanna Crook. If you can’t adopt them, you can at least adopt the T-shirt!

Because it can be difficult to tell the three kittens apart, we’re providing a separate album for each below.

Hubbub - Male

Rumpus - Male

Kerfuffle - Female

Tempest - Mom - Torbie. Teacup - Co-mom - Calico.

Welcome to TnT and The Solemates!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

We’ve got a ton of news to cover, so we’ll try to go quickly!

Tempest and Teacup

Firstly, we brought in two cats from central Illinois. They were living together before they came to Kitten Academy and it shows - we’ve never seen two adult cats who are so friendly with each other! One is a torbie named Tempest, who is confirmed pregnant by Dr. Quinn at Cary Grove Animal Hospital. Dr. Quinn guesses that she’s about 30 days along - so we’ve got another month to go before delivery. The other is a calico named Teacup. Dr. Quinn doesn’t think Teacup is pregnant. Teacup also needs some dental work, so we’re bringing her in on Tuesday the 26th (it was rescheduled) to double-check whether she is pregnant, and if not, we’ll have her dental work done and also her spay. Our plan is to allow both of them to live together through the delivery of Tempest’s kittens - if they continue to get along so well.

Cooper

Next important note - Cooper has an adopter! We haven’t scheduled an exact time, but we expect him to be picked up in early March.

There’s some absolutely fantastic new designs on our Teespring store - check them out!

Finally, today we brought in another momcat and her week-old kittens. They were rescued by McHenry County Animal Control and On Angels’ Wings brought them to us so that we’d have some actual kittens at this Academy while we wait on Tempest’s litter. Here’s their photos and names:

Lace - Momcat

Hushpuppy - Male

Wedge - Male

Pennyloafer - Female

Oxford - Male

Sneaker - Male

And finally, here’s the rest of the photos from recent photoshoots!

Welcome Working Class!

Greetings, Kitten Academicians!

As you probably know from watching the live stream, our Twitter, Facebook, or the Discord chat for Patreons, we got a new class of kittens in on Wednesday the 9th! They were brought in to On Angels’ Wings from animal control in central Illinois. Based on their weights on the weight chart, they are approximately 3-4 months old and already eligible for graduation, so get your applications in soon! This class is super sweet and hyper active!

You probably also know that we’ve had a late addition, Cooper, from animal control near the south side of Chicago. They had told us Cooper was a girl but the vet has verified Cooper is a boy! We’ll add photos of Cooper here as soon as we’re able to set up a photoshoot. Meanwhile, Cooper is staying in the Master Bedroom while we work on slowly introducing him to the rest of the class!

We’ve got some other news to share with you but we’ll make a separate post about it sometime in the next few days!

Squire - Female - Maroon Collar

Haberdasher - Male - Orange Collar

Wainwright - Male - Black Collar

Apothecary - Female - Lavender Collar

Draper - Male - Green Collar

Troubadour - Male - White Collar

As usual, we’ve got a whole bunch of extra photos from the photoshoot!

Introducing the Coffee Cats!

On March 19th, the Coffee Cats transferred to Kitten Academy from one of the other fosters at On Angels' Wings.  They're already nearly ready to graduate - we anticipate they'll only need to stay at the Academy for a couple of weeks.

We'll put together a video and add them to the weight chart as soon as we can!  In the meantime, here's your kitten identification guide!

Latte - Male

Latte can be identified by his lack of collar (if he is wearing it, it's blue, but he seems to prefer to not).  In addition, his orange spots on his back are broken up with a lot of white, while Frappe and Caramel are more solid.

Caramel - Male

Caramel's easily identified by his black collar.

Frappe - Female

Frappe has a pink collar, and more white on her haunches.  Frappe has already been adopted, but will still be staying to finish her classes at the Academy!

Mocha - Male

Mocha has a brown and pink collar.

Java - Male

Java has a distinct white tail tip - a little hard to see here.  Java has also already been adopted, but will be staying on to finish out the semester.

Bean - Male

Bean is black and white!

Star - Mom

Here's some extra photos of the Coffee Cats!
