Teaspoon
This post comes to you several months after the events and has still been extremely difficult to share. That said, we've always been committed to sharing the facts with those of you who feel better having the information.
We're saddened to share with you that Teaspoon is no longer with us.
As many of you are probably aware, Teaspoon had a whole host of regular exams, cardiology appointments and ER visits to keep on top of his congenital heart issues.
At a routine follow-up appointment with Dr. Katz back in February, Teaspoon was given his annual rabies vaccine and some extra lasix due to some testing showing a little fluid buildup around his heart and lungs.
That evening, Teaspoon was a little less active than usual but we assumed that was due to the rabies vaccine which is something we very regularly see in our fosters. He was given his normal regime of medicines and we monitored him closely.
During the night, Teaspoon seemed a little off. Fearing dehydration from the extra lasix, we decided to administer some subcutaneous fluids, churu and plenty of snuggles which did help him to improve at the time.
About one hour later, Teaspoon's heart suddenly stopped and he passed away while snuggled up in DJ's arms.
We know that Teaspoon was deeply loved and this news will be difficult for everyone. It's been very difficult for us, too. We don’t encourage anyone to make any grand gestures – such as sending flowers, memorial pieces, etc. If you have the urge to do so, we’d sincerely ask that you make a donation to DAWS or to your local animal shelter instead.
